“Stop Blame Games!” – President Ruto Cautions Kiambu Leaders

President William Ruto has issued a warning to Kiambu County leaders on the ongoing rivalries.

Ruto, who was a guest at the JCM church on Sunday, February 22, openly challenged Kiambu’s leadership, especially Governor Kimani Wamatangi, to show unity.

This is especially significant given that the bulk of them were in power under the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

In a conscious effort to calm tensions among the leaders, Ruto specifically referred to the recent demolitions in Githurai, advising Governor Kimani Wamatangi against playing blame games.

“I am urging all leaders to stop the blame games and focus on addressing the challenges facing Kiambu County. You carry that responsibility because you were elected by the people,” Ruto stated.

“If an issue arises, like the one we recently witnessed in Githurai, we should not resort to finger-pointing or singling out individuals. We are all in government, and it is our collective duty to find solutions,” he added.

His advice comes amid ongoing political tensions in the county as a result of the Kenya National Highways Authority’s (KeNHA) recent demolitions of its commercial booths along the highway in Githurai.

Kiambu Governor Kiamani Wamatangi was the first to enter the stage, stating that no one was opposed to the unfolding happenings in Githura.

However, he requested the President to invite Kenha officials to his office to discuss what he called unfair demolitions.

He also requested recompense for businesspeople whose enterprises were destroyed, stating that, while they want progress, those impacted should also be compensated.

KeNHA recently demolished the stalls located along the Thika superhighway after issuing a seven-day notice to traders to vacate the area.

However, the traders defied the orders, prompting the authority to begin the demolitions.

“Here in Githurai, as much as we want development, we really want it,” Wamatangi stated.

“It does not cost those gentlemen anything to come and sit with us so we can get a lasting solution.”

Adding, “We can count those affected and compensate them even if it is Ksh 20,000 or Ksh 10,000 and everybody will be happy.”

Thika member of parliament Alice Nganga went to the podium, seemingly targeting Kiambu Governor Wamatangi as she vowed to traverse the whole county to be elected the next governor.

This drew the president’s attention to call for peace in the county.

Besides the recent exchange of words between the leaders, Kiambu County has been embroiled in a war of words since Nganga announced her intention to vie for the gubernatorial seat.
