The billionaire was a successful industrialist who founded one of Kenya’s largest cement manufacturers.
In addition, he served as the director of Corrugated Iron Sheets in Kenya and Tororo Cement in Uganda.
Patel championed environmental conservation, most notably by supporting the conversion of Kibarani Dumpiste in Mombasa into a tourist destination.
Patel’s reputation skyrocketed after he oversaw the conversion of Kibarani Dumpsite into an attractive park.
Patel, with the assistance of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Governor Hassan Joho, converted the 20-acre dumpsite into a recreational park for Ksh700 million.
A superliner was poured across the land to cover the gas outlets that emitted the gas.
He also promoted environmental conservation by planting 2,000 mangrove trees near the ocean to help break up the winds that were uprooting trees in the park.

More than 500,000 plant species call the park home, thanks to a well-planned rehabilitation program that included Ashok trees, Christmas Palm trees, Jacaranda trees, Bougainvillea, coconut trees, sisal, and Casuarina.
People from the coast will remember Patel as both a businessman and an environmentalist. He left behind a widow and three children.
