JOHN MUCHIRI: DCI Gives Statement On Youth Found Dead In Kiambu

The boy whose body was discovered along the Banana-Kiambu road in Kiambu County was the victim of mob justice, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

John Muchiri Muthoni’s lifeless body was discovered on Saturday, January 4, in the Kawaida area, with apparent signs of being attacked before his death.

At the time, activist Hussein Khalid reported that the deceased’s girlfriend received an anonymous phone call informing her of Muchiri’s location.

Following his death, the public blamed security agencies for a series of abductions that have shaken the country since the beginning of December.

However, in a statement released on Monday, January 6, the DCI indicated that Muchiri, 27, was most likely slain by an angry crowd following a burglary attempt.

According to the DCI, the deceased and three other accomplices attempted to scale the wall of a rented home.

“Investigations revealed that the deceased, along with several accomplices, had scaled the perimeter wall of a nearby rental property with the intent to commit theft,” DCI’s statement said.

The DCI also disclosed that witnesses heard them strolling on the iron sheet roof and interfering with the Wi-Fi network, and an alarm was immediately raised.

According to DCI, the group scattered, but Muchiri was cornered and murdered 20 metres from the rented house.

Muchiri’s body is currently in the Kihara Level IV Hospital mortuary, pending autopsy.

In a separate occurrence, Ian Singoe’s body was discovered in the Mwiki area. His cause of death has yet to be determined.

The finding of Singoe and Muchiri’s bodies at overlapping times prompted widespread worry, with many believing that the deaths were tied to the abduction trend.

On Monday, counties including Mombasa and Nairobi saw a relatively peaceful second round of rallies to increase pressure on security services to address the disturbing trend of missing people.

Meanwhile, four of the most prominent figures who have been kidnapped since December 2024 have been reunited with their family.
