We Were Misled – DP Gachagua To Uhuru As He Issued An Apology
On Friday, May 31, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua explained his decision to issue a public apology to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
During a stopover meeting in Limuru, Gachagua claimed that most leaders in the vote-rich region, including himself, were misled into attacking Uhuru Kenyatta.
He admitted that it was not wise to publicly attack their leader, given that some members of the public also mocked the former President.
As a result, he concluded that it would be prudent to apologize to Uhuru in order to avoid a recurrence of the incident.
“We were misled, we attacked and shouted down President Uhuru. I requested forgiveness, did you forgive me? Never again will we attack our leader. Do not stab your brother in the back.
“That is why I personally went live on TV and Radio to seek forgiveness from our son Uhuru Kenyatta for attacking him during the campaigns. We acknowledge our mistake. The bad thing would be to repeat the mistake,” he stated.
Gachagua explained that the apology was also necessary because there were still plans to cause division among the current leaders.
He also warned the region’s young leaders not to be used to fuel division in the mountain, pointing out that the vote-rich region is always a target for those looking to cause division.
However, he did not name the specific leaders responsible for the plan to cause disunity on Mt Kenya.
Instead, he urged the leadership to join him in supporting President William Ruto.
In recent weeks, the DP has been on a charm offensive, extending an olive branch to Uhuru. This comes after cracks in the ruling party’s leadership surfaced.
According to the DP, a group of leaders close to Ruto is behind the plans to cause friction among Mt Kenya leaders.
He specifically targeted Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, warning him to stay away from Mt Kenya politics.
This was in reference to a splinter group advocating for Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro to succeed Ruto. Other leaders have suggested that Nyoro succeed Gachagua as Ruto’s running mate in 2027.
However, his sentiments did not sit well with Sudi, who insisted on working with leaders from all regions.
“You cannot control where I go. If we all stayed in our respective constituencies then we would not be in government. We had to fly all over the country to ask Kenyans to elect this government.
“I am not someone you can threaten. I have been threatened enough and this does not move me,” Sudi responded.
Uhuru has yet to comment on Gachagua’s public apology.
