“Deeply saddened by the death of three Chinese tourists as a result of a road accident in Kajiado this week,” PS Korir Sing’Oei said while expressing his regret over the incident.
Following the incident, China’s ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian, paid a visit to the injured.
The ambassador was accompanied by PS Sing’Oei and Jane Makori, Kenya’s Director of Foreign Affairs.
“I visited those injured who are undergoing treatment at Nairobi Aga Khan Hospital,” Sing’Oei revealed.
Korir assured the Chinese community in Kenya that the government is committed to the safety of all tourists who visit the country.
While revealing details of the accident earlier this week, Police Spokesperson Resila Onyango stated that the trio tragically died when the van they were travelling in overturned on the Oloitoktok-Emali Road.
She also revealed that the vehicle, which was en route to Nairobi from Amboseli National Park, was carrying six Chinese tourists at the time of the accident.
According to Resila, the three deaths were confirmed at the Kilome Nursing and Maternity Hospital in Emali, where all of the victims were taken before being transferred to the Aga Khan Hospital.
In a similar incident on March 11, last year, two German and Swiss tourists died during a safari in Maasai Mara after their tour vehicle veered off the road and rolled multiple times.
According to the police report, the vehicle had five occupants at the time of the accident, three Germans and two Swiss nationals.
According to the report, one German national was killed on the spot, while the Swiss died later from his injuries.
