Oparanya’s CS Nomination In Jeopardy After EACC Flagged His Appointment
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has written to the National Assembly, urging it not to approve Wycliffe Oparanya’s nomination as Cabinet Secretary due to integrity concerns.
In a letter dated July 29 and addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly, EACC stated that Oparanya, the Co-operatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development CS nominee, is facing a graft case.
EACC stated that it has filed for preservation orders against Oparanya’s assets, alleging that he is in possession of proceeds from corruption resulting from a conflict of interest and that the case is still pending in court.
1. My understanding of the role of @EACCKenya is NOT just anti-corruption. It is ensuring Ethics and Anti- corruption amongst others, in line with Articles 73-80 of COK,2010.

On July 26, Oparanya suffered a significant setback when the High Court declined to unfreeze his assets in the ongoing graft investigation into the alleged embezzlement of Sh1.3 billion during his two-term tenure as Kakamega governor.
In this case, EACC seeks to recover Sh1,387,310,025 from Oparanya and several companies associated with Kakamega County government officials.
Oparanya is scheduled to appear before MPs for vetting on Sunday.
Speaking at the weekend’s Luhya community development conference, Oparanya declared his readiness to serve in the national unity government.
“The most important thing is that I am ready to serve in this government of national unity. I will be open, offer suggestions and propose what is best for the country because we want to move forward for the good of our nation,” he added.
The former governor stated that because he helped develop the Vision 2030 plan, he is aware of what is expected of him by the Head of State.
