#NANENANEMARCH: Kenyans Ready For A Massive Second Independence Day
Kenyans plan to march on August 8th, 2024, demanding President Ruto’s resignation and protesting controversial tax increases.
Protesters have pledged to camp in Nairobi until their demands are met, with plans for a “micro-economy” to support the demonstration.
The movement, led by young people and activists, invites vendors to join in and provide food and necessities.
In response to the crisis, Ruto’s administration has formed a “broad-based” cabinet that includes opposition members and has called for anti-corruption legislation to be amended.
Breaking: Protesters say they'll camp but refuse to mention camping site as per latest poster. The poster also talks about creating a micro-economy to support the campaign. Food vendors invited. Juacali Jiko vendors also invited. Looks like an escalation of protests… pic.twitter.com/XIKZ9WFbmO

Ruto warns against “violence and anarchy,” and promises a strong response to any disruptions.
After the president and legislature attempted to force a finance bill through Parliament, Kenya experienced an unprecedented wave of protest and violent policing.
Protesters have been teargassed and shot with live ammunition.
According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights(KNHRC), at least 50 people have died as a result of protests, the most in the country’s independent history.
Kenya is severely hampered by its toothless, sycophantic National Assembly.
Under the authoritarian state, Parliament was gradually defanged, and one of the most common tactics for killing legislation was the presidential veto, in which the president simply refused to assent to any bills that reduced his power.
