[LIST] Parts Of Kenya UK Citizens Warned Against Visiting As Terrorism Threat Grows
The United Kingdom has warned its citizens to avoid Kenya’s northern and coastal regions due to the threat of terrorism from Somali-based groups.
According to an advisory, the UK government has identified areas within 60 kilometres of Kenya’s border with Somalia, including Eastern Garissa County.
The areas covered include the Boni National Reserve, Mandera (excluding Mandera West Sub-County), and Lamu County (excluding Lamu Island and Manda Island).
Other areas include Tana River County’s northern region and areas within 15 kilometers of the east coast, between the Tana and Galana rivers.
We deeply value our security partnership with Kenya, which protects 🇰🇪 and 🇬🇧 citizens. A good practical discussion with @ray_omollo on deepening our co-operation, against terrorism, organised crime, money laundering, cyber-threats and more. https://t.co/gQRg4dUYeg

The UK government advised its citizens to only visit the designated areas if necessary.
“If you choose to travel, research your destinations and get appropriate travel insurance. Insurance should cover your itinerary, planned activities and expenses in an emergency,” the advisory read in part.
Furthermore, the UK government encouraged citizens to regularly check travel advisories before planning a trip to the country.
The Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) frequently posts travel advisories on the government’s website to help British citizens make decisions about travel abroad.
“British people make around 50 million trips abroad annually. Almost all of these trips are trouble-free,” read one of the advisories.
“But every year FCDO helps tens of thousands of British nationals who have got into difficulty abroad. In many cases, these difficulties could have been avoided.”
