Migori Political Factions Clash At Jamhuri Day Event During President Ruto’s Speech Reading
President William Ruto’s address was cut short in Migori County during the Jamuhuri Day celebrations due to political skirmishes between two competing parties.
The area County Commissioner had to cut his address short as the protesters invaded the premises and disrupted the function.
A portion of the faction wanted him to continue with the speech, while the two opposing parties continued with their changes.
The administrative officer was compelled to plead with the audience to allow him to finish his address, but his efforts were in vain.
The police officers’ attempt to manage the two local political factions failed, and the horrific events turned the event into a battleground of unrest for the entire day.

Efforts by Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko and area MP Paul Abuor to restore order were ineffective as the situation worsened.
Police attempted to disperse the boisterous adolescents by firing rounds into the air, but were unsuccessful because the camps stood their ground.
Some plain-clothed officers even attempted to pull and push some youths away, although with minimal success.
At the same time, residents looked to be embroiled in politically charged disputes that fuelled the violence, making it practically impossible for officers to restore order.
The incident follows another nasty situation in Kirinyaga when Nyandarua County citizens raised a commotion as the President’s speech was about to be read during the 61st Jamhuri Day celebrations.

The peaceful throng erupted in outrage, screaming their voices and tossing their hands in the air.
The county commissioner’s attempts to read the address were futile as the furious throng booed louder.
On Sunday, October 20, Juja locals heckled President Ruto’s Mashujaa Day speech, which was delivered by the sub-county’s Deputy County Commissioner (DCC).
In most common-wealth countries, such as Kenya, the Head of State’s address is read in various sections of the country where the figures are not physically present.
