Babu Owino Writes Demand Letter To Speaker Wetang’ula Over Abductions
Embakasi East Member of Parliament (MP) Babu Owino has asked a special session of the National Assembly to address what he calls “urgent matters regarding the state of security in the country.”
On Sunday, December 29, the outspoken politician, who has been one of the most vocal leaders in the wake of the country’s abductions, issued a letter to National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
While identifying numerous people who were allegedly abducted or went missing in recent weeks, Babu Owino stated that the public was concerned because the whereabouts of some of the people remained unknown to date.
Furthermore, the MP was concerned that all of the missing people had one thing in common: they had publicly opposed the Kenya Kwanza Government at some point.
“There is growing public anxiety over the role of state agencies in these abductions, particularly the involvement of the National Intelligence Service (NIS), the Inspector General of Police, and the role of telecommunications companies,” his letter read.

Dear Hon. Speaker,
*Re: Request for…
He added, “In light of these disturbing developments, I request that the National Assembly urgently convene a special sitting before the scheduled vetting of Cabinet nominees.”
Babu Owino feels that the meeting will provide an opportunity to bring some significant stakeholders in national security to justice.
He particularly named Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Director of Criminal Investigations Amin Ibrahim, and the new Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Mr. Onesmus Murkomen, as government officials.
Babu wants the trio to answer pressing issues about the country’s security situation.

Last week, IG Kanja publicly distanced the country’s security agencies from any wrongdoing in the purported abductions, infuriating Babu Owino, who demanded the IG’s resignation.
More recently, CS Murkomen rejected any police involvement in the abductions, noting that anyone apprehended by the police should be brought to court within 24 hours.
“As a government, we agree that NPS under the command of Inspector General is independent and so we are not going to interfere with their work,” Murkomen said.
Meanwhile, in one of his first words since the kidnapping wave made national news, President William Ruto reaffirmed the government’s resolve to put an end to the alarming vice.
