Gachagua’s Scathing Attack On Ruto After Abduction Acknowledgement

Rigathi Gachagua, the former deputy president, claimed on Sunday, December 29, that he believes his public statements compelled President William Ruto’s recent acknowledgment of kidnapping in Kenya.

Speaking to journalists in Kakamega County, Gachagua stated that Ruto only admitted to the abductions following his (Gachagua’s) damning expose.

Gchagua thinks it discovered an undisclosed building in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) where kidnapping victims were allegedly being housed.

Gachagua added that it was only after he revealed that the building with over 21 floors and a man named Abel, associated to a very powerful person in government, were the primary figures in the kidnapping problem in Kenya, that Ruto broke his silence over the situation.

“I have a feeling, I don’t know, I am not quite sure that the decision by the President to admit that there are abductions and that he will stop them are quite informed by what I said because we are getting nearer to the truth,” Gachagua stated.

The former DP went on to say that, prior to his announcement on December 28, Ruto had frequently maintained that there were no abductions in the country.

He stated that a covert police squad led by Abel was responsible for the forced disappearances of Kenyans.

“They said there were no abductions. The President (Ruto) said more than five times that there were no abductions. He seems to have changed his mind and said that he is going to stop the abductions,” he noted.

Ruto announced the government’s commitment to ending abductions in an address at the Homa Bay Governor’s Cup on December 27, which was also attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

“As a government, we will do our part and the issue of abductions will end in the country so the youth can live in harmony and the youth can become people of integrity and respect to move the country forward,” Ruto stated.

Gachagua appeared to claim that the U-turn demonstrated the administration’s dishonest nature.

“So if he is going to stop the abductions, who was behind them? Do you people really believe what these people (government) say? These people will say anything. They are not believable anymore,” he noted.

Gachagua elaborated on his discovery of the building, justifying his decision to keep the exact site and name a secret.

“I did not want to name the building because there are people doing business there and giving out its name would be putting that building and the people in that building in danger,” he stated.

“I am giving the government time to dismantle that unit operating on the 21st floor of that building.”

Gachagua also criticized his former employer for failing to act on his remarks, noting that despite Ruto’s declaration, the abducted victims were still missing and their whereabouts remained unknown.

“But since the President spoke it has been almost 64 hours since the people have not been released. We would like these people to spend the New Year’s with their families. Order their release from wherever they are,” he asserted.
