Mt Kenya MP Tells Raila To Retire If He Loses The AUC Bid
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has stated that if Raila Odinga does not win the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship, he should withdraw from politics.
During an interview with Citizen TV, Wamuchomba stated that Raila should win the seat and depart the country’s political landscape.
“If he (Raila) does not get it (AUC chairmanship) he just needs to go and retire at Bondo. We will give him a very good retirement package as an ex-Prime Minister,” she said.
She stated that if he loses his post, Raila should not run again for president.
She stated that it is time for young politicians to be elected, claiming that the elder generation has had their say and that it is now their turn.
“Next election we will elect a young president and a young woman deputy president. We are not going to allow those previous leaders who have been at it,” she added.
Raila just needs to be given a very nice retirement package at the AU.

“Raila should get the seat so that he can exit the political scene and leave the new energies to occupy,” she said.
In the election slate for Saturday, February 15, the winning candidate must receive two-thirds of the votes.
Out of 55 African countries, 48 AU states are eligible to vote.
Under African Union (AU) norms, voting is conducted by secret ballot and will continue until one of the candidates receives a two-thirds majority vote.
The regulations also call for many votes before selecting the AUC chair, and if the final candidate does not receive two-thirds of the votes, the summit may postpone the decision until July 2025.

Raila will face off against Djibouti’s nominee, Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato.
A source at Raila’s Nairobi secretariat told the Star that the Addis Abeba event has sparked widespread interest from both sides of the political spectrum.
According to pundits, Raila’s biggest challenge is the Djiboutian candidate, who is considered to garner Muslim and Arab support.
The incoming AU chairperson will be tasked with addressing Africa’s high poverty levels, unemployment, spiraling debt, instability, illiteracy, inadequate healthcare services, and energy needs, among other challenges.
