President Ruto’s X Parody User Released On Ksh.100,000 Cash Bail

Titus Wekesa Sifuna, the X user charged with impersonating President William Ruto, has been released on Ksh.100,000 cash bail or a Ksh.1 million bond.

Sifuna was originally arraigned before the Milimani Law Courts on Tuesday for a miscellaneous application.

He was accused of using his X account, @5thethief, and username “I must go” to make insulting statements about the President and his family.

At the time, the prosecution claimed that the posts had sparked unfavorable public reactions and were a threat to national peace and cohesion.

“The content of the X account poses a serious threat to the country’s reputation, as the President is a symbol of national unity and should be respected and honoured by all,” the prosecution told the court.

The court also heard that the disseminated content, including statements and photographs, constitutes hate speech, with the potential to incite ethnic tensions among the people.

It was also claimed that Sifuna changed the account’s profile to show an image of the Head of State, which the authorities believe is false and damaging.

The prosecution thus requested that the defendant be detained for seven days to allow the police to complete their continuing investigations.
