EACC Arrests, Detains Gov’t Official Over Corruption Allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has detained and charged a Kisumu County Revenue Officer on corruption accusations.

The officer was accused of soliciting and collecting a bribe of Ksh10,000 by the Kisumu Anti-Corruption Court on Tuesday, February 10.

According to the commission, the suspect, who was in charge of the Kisumu Bus Park, allegedly demanded a bribe from a businessman operating a matatu on the Kisumu-Kisii route.

According to the commission, the officer first requested Ksh18,000 from the merchant but received Ksh10,000 as an initial payment.

“The charges follow investigations conducted by the Commission, which established that Mr Odhiambo allegedly solicited a bribe of Ksh18,500 from a businessman operating a matatu between Kisumu and Kisii,” EACC stated on Wednesday, February 11.

“The officer is accused of threatening to pursue fabricated charges against the complainant unless the bribe was paid. The accused was later arrested upon receiving Ksh10,000 as part payment,” it added.

Upon arraignment, the officer pleaded not guilty to the charges and was freed on Ksh20,000 cash bail or a Ksh50,000 bond.

“The matter is scheduled for hearing on 25th February 2026 at the Kisumu law court,” the commission stated.

The lawsuit comes at a time when the commission is stepping up its efforts to crack down on corrupt government officials in order to increase efficiency and openness while also improving overall public service delivery.

Just two weeks ago, the commission reported the arraignment of six defendants, including four former Homa Bay County officials, for an irregular tender award for Ksh348,927,840.
