Kenya Put On HIGH Alert Over Suspected Ebola Cases, 3 Test Negative
Aden Duale, the Health Cabinet Secretary, has affirmed that there is no Ebola virus breakout in the country, despite initial fears.
Duale stated on Friday, May 22, that three people who had previously travelled to the Democratic Republic of the Congo had lately visited Kenya.
However, they were isolated before being tested for the virus, and all findings were negative.
Duale stated that the other four Kenyans who had contact with the foreigners were also isolated and tested negative.
“Kenya has not reported any confirmed cases of Ebola disease,” he stated.
“Three individuals with recent travel history from the DRC presented themselves to the DRC with unrelated illnesses, were isolated, tested, and the results came back negative.”
“Four additional contacts who had accompanied them to the hospital were also tested, assessed and found negative,” he added.
The clarification came following viral reports that Uasin Gishu county had recorded a case of the virus with a fake letter purporting to have come from the county government.
Duale cautioned the public against spreading fake news, stating that the Ebola case is a matter of national concern and should not be reduced to fake news.

“The public is advised to rely only on official information issued by the Ministry of Health, KNPHI, WHO and Africa CDC,” he said.
At the same time, Duale revealed 22 counties that are at high risk of contracting the virus.
The counties the ministry identified as high risk included Nairobi, Kericho, Busia, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Mombasa, and Turkana, among others.
He further added that the ministry had put intensive measures together with the county governments, as well as the World Health Organization (WHO), to prevent the virus from coming to Kenya.
