‘We Will Release Ksh14 billion School Capitation This Week!’ – CS Ogamba
The government will begin releasing the delayed Sh14 billion capitation funding for schools this week, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba revealed.
Ogamba noted that his ministry is working closely with the Treasury to ensure that the money are distributed to schools as soon as possible.
“We are doing everything possible to ensure the balance is paid,” Ogamba assured as he urged school heads not to send learners home.
According to the CS, the government pays the capitation, not the parents.
He stated that a team from the Ministry of Education is now working with the Treasury to determine the availability of finances for disbursement.
At the same time, the CS indicated that the ministry is developing a long-term method to ensure that capitation monies are distributed on schedule, so avoid future interruptions that have impacted schools, instructors, and students.
Schools were supposed to get Sh28 billion in the first term, but the government only issued half of it on January 30.

The funding for tuition and operational expenses are issued in three tranches, with 50% disbursed in the first term, 30% in the second, and 20% in the third.
Under this free primary education scheme, the government provides Sh1,420 for every learner, while junior schools receive Sh15,042 per pupil.
Secondary schools are projected to collect Sh22,244 per student through the free day secondary education scheme.
Last week, school leaders through the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) threatened to release kids due to the institution’s financial crisis.
